WASHINGTON, DC - The JOSHUA Foundation today announced the launch of Manna for Many, a food supplement program for elderly and disabled residents of Washington, DC.

According to a September 1999 US Department of Agriculture report, 31 million Americans are either hungry or do not know from where their next meal will come. Undernourishment and hunger among the elderly often promote degenerative illnesses. Statistics report that people ages 65 to 75 do not consume two-thirds of the nutrients they need to sustain a healthy life.

"These statistics are alarming. While we can't feed the world, we will do our part to help the elderly and disabled residents of our community. Oftentimes our elderly and disabled residents are forgotten about. God willing, I'll grow old one day and prayerfully not become disabled, and I hope that I'm not forgotten. We must not forget about our seniors," said Edward Walden Jr., Executive Director of The JOSHUA Foundation.

Through the Manna for Many Food Distribution Program, The JOSHUA Foundation aims to improve the nutrition of undernourished elderly men and women and the disabled in the District of Columbia. Proper nutrition will allow these men and women to enjoy quality lives and to sustain good health; thus, reducing the onset of degenerative illnesses among the elderly. Non-perishable supplemental foods will be distributed monthly to eligible households.

Founded in 2001, by Executive Director, Edward Walden Jr., The JOSHUA Foundation is a global 501(c)(3) non-profit Christian organization serving poor and disadvantaged people. Its mission is to assist in the elimination of health and education disparities domestically and abroad.
